On 21 January 2021, the country received the sad news of the passing of Minister in the Presidency, Mr Jackson Mthembu due to COVID-19 complications. Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) was one of the government departments that the Minister was responsible for. According to the Statistician-General (Head of Statistics South Africa) Mr Risenga Maluleke, the Minister reminded us that “official statistics represent a reality about our people, the places they inhabit and endless potential and possibilities that exist for them.” The minister was a great asset to the organisation and during his tenure, he contributed towards the growth and achievements of Stats SA. Thus, his absence will be greatly felt. In memory of Minister Mthembu, let us continue to fight against COVID-19 and emulate him by putting our nation first. If every individual adheres to the COVID-19 safety regulations, we will soon overcome the pandemic. Let us continue to hope
for better things to come.
