FOOD AND AGRICULTURAL ORGANIZATION (FAO), STATS SA AND DEPT OF AGRICULTURE, LAND REFORM AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (DALRRD) TO HOST THE 28TH SESSION OF THE AFRICAN COMMISION ON AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS (AFCAS)

Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Stats SA and the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD), will host the 28th Session of the African Commission on Agricultural Statistics (AFCAS) from 04-08 December 2023 at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Johannesburg.

The African Commission on Agricultural Statistics is a platform for the sharing of ideas on the state of food and agriculture statistics in Africa. AFCAS also advises Member States on the development of their agricultural statistical systems as part of the FAO’s work programme for Africa.

The AFCAS is one of the main fora for measuring the progress made by the FAO and African countries in the production and dissemination of agricultural statistics and the development of national agricultural statistics systems.

The theme for this year’s AFCAS is “Leveraging data & statistics for agrifood systems transformation in Africa”.

The conference will comprise officials in National Statistics Offices and Ministries of Agriculture from FAO member countries in Africa. Agricultural statistics are important for evaluation, planning and monitoring as they provide vital numbers on production, stocks, and prices within the agricultural sector.

The details of the conference are as follows:
