Ballito was established on the farm Avondale Park in 1954 as a private township and is now a large coastal resort town. The word ballito is Spanish for 'little ball', and it is said that the name was taken from an advert for legwear made by the Ballito Hosiery Limited in England. (GPS coordinates: 29.5266 S, 31.2058 E).
