The African continent is faced with many challenges such as, amongst\u00a0others, terrorism, poverty and gender inequality. Thus, this month, 54 African\u00a0heads of state are attending the 25th African Union Summit in South Africa\u00a0from 07 to 15 June to find tangible plans to address these challenges and to\u00a0focus on how to develop the African continent.The summit was organised\u00a0under the theme: \u201cYear of Women Empowerment and Development towards\u00a0Africa\u2019s Agenda 2063\u201d. The summit also emphasises the importance of\u00a0rekindling the passion for pan-Africanism, a sense of unity, self-reliance,\u00a0integration and solidarity as key factors to the development of the continent.<\/p>\n
Our educational article for this month\u2019s issue of the Mbalo Brief focuses on\u00a0Victims of Crime Survey, 2013\/14 as well as Crime Statistics Series Volume\u00a0II: Public perceptions about crime prevention and the Criminal Justice\u00a0System (An in-depth analysis of the Victims of Crime Survey data,\u00a02010\u20132013\/14). This article derived from Report No. 03-40-03 which was\u00a0published in April 2015.
