Statistics South Africa is proud to announce that several high profile speakers have been lined up for the Annual ISIbalo symposium taking place at Stellenbosch University on 29 June 2015.<\/p>\n
They include Mr Jeff Radebe, Minister in the Presidency, Rector and Vice Chancellor of Stellenbosch university, Professor Wim de Villiers, Mr Pali Lehohla, Statistician General and member of UN Secretary General\u2019s Independent Expert Advisory Group on Data revolution for Sustainable Development (IEAG), Professor Manie Geyer, Director of the Centre for Regional and Urban innovation and statistical exploration(CRUISE) and Professor Sabina Alkire, director of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Institute (OPHI)<\/p>\n
The symposium will highlight the work of CRUISE which was founded in 2009 as a collaborative effort between Stats SA and the department of Geography and Environmental studies at Stellenbosch University.<\/p>\n
The symposium will include workshops, breakaway sessions and a plenary session and will be at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Studies (STIAS)<\/p>\n
The workshop will include the Global multidimensional Poverty Index and new data for the effective implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)<\/p>\n
CRUISE has been providing research and training in urban and regional systems to capacitate public sector, non-governmental organizations and international development agencies in the African continent and has produced over 50 Masters Graduates in the past four years<\/p>\n
The presentations will show that research follows a dual approach in which emphasis is placed on the production and dissemination of knowledge as well as the application of the theories and concepts through applied research.<\/p>\n
