Together these three sectors account for two thirds of total manufacturing production.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturing production showed very little change in 2014 compared with 2013. Stats SA\u2019s preliminary estimate recorded a slight contraction of 0,1%, following four years of positive growth during 2010\u20132013.<\/p>\n<p>The largest contributors to the weak performance of manufacturing production in 2014 were metals &amp; machinery and glass &amp; non-metallic mineral products.<\/p>\n<p>Metals &amp; machinery fell by 3,0% in 2014 compared with 2013. Its annual growth rate (see graph) started the year in positive territory (January, February and March) but turned negative for the rest of the year, reaching a low of \u201121,2% year-on-year in July 2014 as a result of a four-week long metals and engineering strike.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/new_manuc.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4077\" alt=\"new_manuc\" src=\"https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/new_manuc.png\" width=\"1310\" height=\"953\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/new_manuc.png 1310w, https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/new_manuc-300x218.png 300w, https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/new_manuc-1024x744.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/new_manuc-100x72.png 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1310px) 100vw, 1310px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Manufacturing production in the glass &amp; non-metallic mineral products sector fell by 5,8% in 2014 compared with 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Although total manufacturing showed a small contraction in 2014, six of the ten manufacturing divisions recorded positive growth.
