In the second quarter manufacturing posted a growth rate of -4,0% and in the first quarter -6,4%. \u00a0The other industry that recorded a negative growth rate in the third quarter was electricity, gas and water, contracting by 1,1%. Agriculture, on the other hand, was the best performing industry in the third quarter, expanding by 8,2%.<\/p>\n<p>Stats SA\u2019s third quarter release of the GDP estimates also provides a picture of how well provincial economies have been performing. During 2013 South Africa\u2019s economy posted a real annual growth rate of 2,2%. Eastern Cape\u2019s economy experienced the most sluggish growth, expanding by only 1,1% during that year.
