These are the words of South Africa\u2019s first democratically elected president, Nelson Rolihlahla \u2018Madiba\u2019 Mandela during an address delivered at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto in 2008. In celebration of his service to the South African people and humanity in general, the United Nations declared Madiba\u2019s birthday \u2013 18 July \u2013 as Nelson Mandela International Day, a day on which people the world over are encouraged to engage in activities that make the world a better place for the less fortunate in the community.<\/p>\n
In this issue of Mbalo Brief, we continue our series of Census 2011 educational articles highlighting census results at metropolitan municipality level. The focus is on the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in this issue. We look at the municipality\u2019s population growth in 2011 in comparison to 2001 and 1996, average household income, access to housing, education levels, and access to basic services, among others.<\/p>\n
