Real estate, activities auxiliary to financial intermediation and business services industry, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Total income between 2020 (R1 401,2 billion) and 2024 (R1 843,4 billion) increased by 31,6%, according to data from Statistics South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This translates to an increase of R442,2 billion. The largest increase was reported for \u2018activities auxiliary to financial intermediation\u2019 (+R88,3 billion), followed by \u2018real estate activities\u2019 (+R84,4 billion), \u2018business and management consultancy activities\u2019 (+R60,8 billion) and \u2018computer related activities\u2019 (+R52,3 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The survey covered enterprises on the value-added tax (VAT) database with real estate, activities auxiliary to financial intermediation and business services as their primary or main activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Profit margin recovers from a single digit (5,5%) increase in 2020 to 12,2% in 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The profit margin in 2016 was 14,0%. In 2024, \u2018real estate activities\u2019 had the highest profit margin at 31,0%, followed by \u2018activities auxiliary to financial intermediation\u2019 (17,7%) and \u2018legal activities\u2019 (16,9%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The industry employed 146 000 more people<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total number of persons employed increased by 7,8% between 2020 (1 884 000) and 2024 (2 030 000). The largest employment gains were recorded for \u2018investigation and security activities\u2019 (+71 000 jobs), \u2018other business activities\u2019 (+34 000 jobs), and \u2018business and management consultancy activities\u2019 (+22 000 jobs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capital expenditure between 2020 (R96,3 billion) and 2024 (R109,0 billion) increased by 13,1%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, the largest contributor to capital expenditure on new assets was \u2018real estate activities\u2019
(R33,5 billion or 31,0%), followed by \u2018computer related activities\u2019 (R21,3 billion or 19,5%) and \u2018renting of machinery and equipment without operator; renting of personal and household goods\u2019 (R14,2 billion or 13,0%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
