{"id":13510,"date":"2020-08-03T17:33:46","date_gmt":"2020-08-03T15:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/?p=13510"},"modified":"2020-08-03T17:34:28","modified_gmt":"2020-08-03T15:34:28","slug":"mbalo-brief-july-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/?p=13510","title":{"rendered":"Mbalo Brief &#8211; July 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 28 July 2020, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) published the Quarterly employment statistics (QES) survey results for the first quarter of 2020.\u00a0According to the survey, the formal non-agricultural sector shed 3 000 jobs\u00a0in the first quarter of 2020. This brings the total number of persons employed\u00a0in the formal non-agricultural sector in South Africa to 10,2 million. The\u00a0survey further shows that three of the eight industries (trade, construction\u00a0and manufacturing) reported a decrease quarter-on-quarter, while the\u00a0electricity industry reported no change.<\/p>\n<p>On a more positive note, however, the government has declared war on\u00a0unemployment and seeks to create jobs by doing the following: Reversing\u00a0spatial apartheid by building more homes near big cities where the work is;\u00a0by introducing a policy that ensures that graduates are hired without work\u00a0experience, by introducing skills programmes for young people to make<br \/>\nthem more employable; and by reducing the cost of data so that using the\u00a0internet to apply for jobs can be cheaper, making the internet more\u00a0accessible for the disenfranchised workers of South Africa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Mbalo_Brief_July_2020_web.pdf\">Download Mbalo Brief July 2020 <\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 28 July 2020, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) published the Quarterly employment statistics (QES) survey results for the first quarter of 2020.\u00a0According to the survey, the formal non-agricultural sector shed 3 000 jobs\u00a0in the first quarter of 2020.
