{"id":7314,"date":"2016-05-12T12:54:38","date_gmt":"2016-05-12T10:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/?page_id=7314"},"modified":"2016-05-20T09:24:53","modified_gmt":"2016-05-20T07:24:53","slug":"focus-of-the-conference-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/?page_id=7314","title":{"rendered":"Focus of the Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: darkred; font-family: Kristen ITC; font-size: 18;\"><b>Focus of 5<sup>th<\/sup> ISIbalo Conference of African Young Statisticians<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<table style=\"background: url('https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/wp-content\/themes\/umkhanyakude\/img\/SchoolKids_3.jpg'); background-size: 100% 100%;\" width=\"100%\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.statssa.gov.za\/wp-content\/themes\/umkhanyakude\/img\/Con4.jpg\" width=\"356\" height=\"216\" \/><span style=\"color: darkgreen;\">The Conference will also take advantage of being held in the week of 16 June 2016 to address the elusive topic of statistical leadership with young professionals as leaders of tomorrow\u2019s statistical community.\u00a0 The 16th June is a day celebrated in South Africa to commemorate brave and fearless young people in 1976 who dared to contest an oppressive education system, in what lead to the Soweto Uprisings of 1976.\u00a0 To date, very little has been done to build future statistical leadership amongst African young statisticians.<\/span><span style=\"color: darkred; font-size: 12;\"><b>Led by Dr Emmanuel Maepa, Mr Risenga Maluleke and Professor Ben Kiryegera, young statisticians will engage on issues of leadership<\/b><\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\"><span style=\"color: darkgreen;\">Ahead of the 28th International Population Conference in Cape Town in 2017, the 5th ISIbalo Conference of African Young Statisticians will adopt a new approach that will seek to build capacity of African young statisticians and other young professionals to undertake research that they identify as urgent or pertinent to social, economic and development issues in their countries and contribute to continental advances in statistical development. The focus of this conference is therefore:<\/span><span style=\"color: darkgreen;\">We start a focused attempt at building research capacity of young statisticians who can contribute to discourse on the demography of their continent. A number of experts will assist at the conference in facilitating training workshops, seminars and guiding young statisticians through research discourse.
