Respondent Needs Analysis Questionnaire – CAWIS

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) is embarking on an exciting project to modernise our data collection processes through a digital platform called the Computer Assisted Web Interview System (CAWIS). As a leading statistical agency, Stats SA is transitioning from traditional Paper Assisted Personal Interviews (PAPI) to CAWI, in line with our strategic goal of implementing a more agile operating model.

CAWIS enables respondents to complete surveys online, improving data accuracy, timeliness, and security, while also enhancing efficiency and reducing operational costs. The objective of this project is to develop a robust CAWIS that streamlines data collection and improves respondent engagement.

To ensure the system meets the needs of our diverse respondents, a needs assessment is being conducted with key stakeholders, respondents and potential users. This will help us understand preferences, challenges, and requirements related to digital data collection.
