Income

The total income in the ocean (marine) fisheries and related services industry in 2023 was R19,9 billion, which is an annualised increase of 7,7% compared with the total income reported in 2020 (R16,0 billion).

 In 2023, the top 10 and top 50 enterprises in the ocean (marine) fisheries and related services industry contributed 75,1% and 91,4% to the total income respectively.

 

Employment

The number of persons employed in the ocean (marine) fisheries and related services industry in 2023 was 16 278. This represents an annualised increase of 2,7% compared with the number of persons employed in 2020 (15 025). The largest number of persons employed in 2023 was male employees (11 457 or 70,4%).

 The average salaries and wages in the ocean (marine) fisheries and related services industry showed an annualised increase of 0,4%, from R190 544 in 2020 to R192 984 in 2023.
