Key findings: Report-03-00-25 - Methodology Report: Local Municipal Population Estimation and projections, 2025

The report details the methodology applied to develop local municipal population estimates and projections disaggregated by age and sex. Using data from previous censuses, the geographical ratio method is employed. The method is based on the premise that if we can establish the ratio of a local municipality to that of the district municipality that it belongs to then we can apply that ratio to the MYPE at the district municipality level to estimate the population of a local municipality. Population estimates, especially at lower levels are a key resource in the process of planning, policy and decision-making. The purpose of this report is to provide information regarding the data used in estimation, key assumptions about future trends, as well as the limitations thereof.
