Number of enterprises

The total number of tenants in the Coega Special Economic Zone in 2025 was 57, representing an increase of 11 enterprises compared to 2024 (46 enterprises). There were more ‘non-manufacturing’ enterprises (36 or 63,2%) compared to ‘manufacturing’ enterprises (21 or 36,8%).

 

Income

The total income in the Coega Special Economic Zone in 2025 was R24 959 million. The total income had a decrease of 0,3% over the income reported in the corresponding survey of 2024 (R25 041 million). ‘Manufacturing’ increased by 2,0 percentage points from a contribution of 70,2% in 2025. Income from ‘non-manufacturing' increased by 2,5% in 2025 compared to 2024 (from R17 589 million to R18 027 million in 2025).

 

Employment

The total number of persons employed (including employees employed through labour brokers) in the Coega Special Economic Zone as at the end of June 2025 was 11 243, an increase of 14,2% from the number reported in 2024 (9 842). While the total number of persons employed (excluding employees employed through labour brokers) was 6 817 in 2025, an increase of 3,4% compared to 2024 (6 594 employees). Manufacturing accounted for the largest share of employees for both employees directly employed by the enterprises in the economic zone 4 118 (or 60,4%) in 2025 and through labour brokers 3 181 (or 71,9%) in 2025
