Key findings: P7162 - Land transport survey, June 2026

Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) increased by 1,4% in June 2026 compared with June 2025. The corresponding income increased by 11,0% over the same period.

 

Income from freight transportation increased by 11,2% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the second quarter of 2025. The main positive contributors to this increase were:

·      ‘other’ freight (22,0% and contributing 4,8 percentage points);

·      agriculture and forestry primary products (17,1% and contributing 1,4 percentage points); and

·      containers (46,6% and contributing 1,4 percentage points).


Seasonally adjusted payload increased by 4,2% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter of 2026. Road freight increased by 5,4% (contributing 4,6 percentage points), while rail freight decreased by 2,7% (contributing -0,4 of a percentage point).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys increased by 9,3% in June 2026 compared with June 2025. The corresponding income increased by 6,0% over the same period.


Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys increased by 3,9% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter of 2026. Road passenger journeys increased by 3,1% (contributing 2,2 percentage points) and rail passenger journeys increased by 5,6% (contributing 1,7 percentage points).
