Key findings: P7162 - Land transport survey, December 2025

Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) increased by 1,9% in December 2025 compared with December 2024. The corresponding income increased by 5,6% over the same period.

 

Income from freight transportation increased by 5,2% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared with the fourth quarter of 2024. The main positive contributors to this increase were:

·      agriculture and forestry primary products (31,7% and contributing 2,3 percentage points);

·      primary mining and quarrying products (5,9% and contributing 2,1 percentage points); and

·      parcels (30,9% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point).


Seasonally adjusted payload decreased by 0,6% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared with the third quarter of 2025. Road freight decreased by 1,3% (contributing -1,1 percentage points), while rail freight increased by 3,6% (contributing 0,5 of a percentage point).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys increased by 4,3% in December 2025 compared with December 2024. The corresponding income increased by 13,0% over the same period.

 

Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys decreased by 2,9% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared with the third quarter of 2025. Road passenger journeys decreased by 4,0% (contributing -2,9 percentage points) and rail passenger journeys decreased by 0,1%.
