Key findings: P7162 - Land transport survey, October 2025

Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) increased by 2,2% in October 2025 compared with October 2024. The corresponding income increased by 5,7% over the same period.

 

Income from freight transportation increased by 4,1% in the three months ended October 2025 compared with the three months ended October 2024. The main positive contributors to this increase were:

·      primary mining and quarrying products (7,0% and contributing 2,4 percentage points);

·      agriculture and forestry primary products (21,0% and contributing 1,6 percentage points); and

·      parcels (31,9% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point).


Seasonally adjusted payload decreased by 1,6% in the three months ended October 2025 compared with the previous three months. Road freight decreased by 2,4% (contributing -2,1 percentage points), while rail freight increased by 3,7% (contributing 0,5 of a percentage point).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys increased by 4,2% in October 2025 compared with October 2024. The corresponding income increased by 15,7% over the same period.

 

Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys decreased by 0,8% in the three months ended October 2025 compared with the previous three months. Road passenger journeys decreased by 3,4% (contributing -2,5 percentage points), while rail passenger journeys increased by 6,4% (contributing 1,7 percentage points).
