Key findings: P7162 - Land transport survey, September 2025

Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) increased by 3,6% in September 2025 compared with September 2024. The corresponding income increased by 6,2% over the same period.

 

Income from freight transportation increased by 2,1% in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the third quarter of 2024. The main positive contributors to this increase were:

·      primary mining and quarrying products (6,6% and contributing 2,3 percentage points); and

·      agriculture and forestry primary products (16,7% and contributing 1,3 percentage points).


Seasonally adjusted payload decreased by 1,3% in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the second quarter of 2025. Road freight decreased by 1,3% (contributing -1,1 percentage points) and rail freight decreased by 1,5% (contributing -0,2 of a percentage point).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys increased by 9,5% in September 2025 compared with September 2024. The corresponding income increased by 8,3% over the same period.

 

Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys increased by 1,3% in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the second quarter of 2025. Rail passenger journeys increased by 11,4% (contributing 3,0 percentage points), while road passenger journeys decreased by 2,3% (contributing -1,7 percentage points).
