Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, January 2026

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry decreased by 1,5% in January 2026 compared with January 2025.

 

Income from accommodation increased by 2,9% year-on-year in January 2026, the result of a 2,3% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 0,6% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.


In January 2026, the positive contributors to the 2,9% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation were:

  • ‘other’ accommodation (15,9% and contributing 5,3 percentage points); and
  • guest-houses and guest-farms (17,3% and contributing 0,7 of a percentage point).

Income from accommodation increased by 6,1% in the three months ended January 2026 compared with the three months ended January 2025. The main contributors to this increase were:

  •        ‘other’ accommodation (10,8% and contributing 3,7 percentage points); and
  •         hotels (3,1% and contributing 1,8 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 1,9% month-on-month in January 2026, following a decrease of 4,5% month-on-month in December 2025.
