Measured in real terms (constant 2019 prices), motor trade sales increased by 3,2% year-on-year in July 2026. The largest positive contributor to this increase was new vehicle sales (13,0% and contributing 3,6 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 4,1% in July 2026 compared with June 2026. This followed month-on-month changes of -2,9% in June 2026 and -2,0% in May 2026.

Motor trade sales increased by 1,9% in the three months ended July 2026 compared with the three months ended July 2025. The largest positive contributors to this increase were:

• new vehicle sales (14,4% and contributing 3,8 percentage points); and
• used vehicle sales (3,4% and contributing 0,7 of a percentage point).

The largest negative contributors were:

• fuel sales (-6,9% and contributing -1,7 percentage points); and
• sales of accessories (-3,8% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales decreased by 3,6% in the three months ended July 2026 compared with the previous three months. The largest negative contributors to this decrease were:

• fuel sales (-7,8% and contributing -1,8 percentage points);
• used vehicle sales (-3,8% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point); and
• sales of accessories (-3,7% and contributing -0,7 of a percentage point).
