Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, March 2026

Measured in real terms (constant 2019 prices), motor trade sales increased by 14,7% year-on-year in March 2026. The main contributors to this increase were:
  • new vehicle sales (23,4% and contributing 6,3 percentage points);
  • used vehicle sales (19,1% and contributing 3,7 percentage points);
  • fuel sales (9,5% and contributing 2,4 percentage points); and
  • sales of accessories (9,3% and contributing 1,9 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 3,9% in March 2026 compared with February 2026. This followed month-on-month changes of 1,5% in February 2026 and -0,7% in January 2026.

 

Motor trade sales increased by 7,6% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter of 2025. The largest positive contributors to this increase were:

  • new vehicle sales (18,7% and contributing 5,0 percentage points); and
  • used vehicle sales (9,4% and contributing 1,9 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 2,2% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the fourth quarter of 2025. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • used vehicle sales (4,8% and contributing 1,0 percentage point);
  • fuel sales (2,8% and contributing 0,7 of a percentage point); and
  • new vehicle sales (1,2% and contributing 0,4 of a percentage point).
