Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, February 2025

Measured in real terms (constant 2019 prices), motor trade sales decreased by 5,2% year-on-year in February 2025. The main negative contributors to this decrease were:

  • fuel sales (-10,0% and contributing -2,7 percentage points);
  • sales of accessories (-7,9% and contributing -1,6 percentage points); and
  • workshop income (-16,9% and contributing -1,0 percentage point).

 

The only positive contributor was used vehicle sales (5,8% and contributing 1,1 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales decreased by 2,4% in February 2025 compared with January 2025. This followed month-on-month changes of 0,4% in January 2025 and 1,6% in December 2024.

 

Motor trade sales decreased by 3,0% in the three months ended February 2025 compared with the three months ended February 2024. The main negative contributors to this decrease were:

  • fuel sales (-6,6% and contributing -1,9 percentage points);
  • sales of accessories (-3,9% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point); and
  • new vehicle sales (-3,0% and contributing -0,7 of a percentage point).

 

The only positive contributor was used vehicle sales (6,2% and contributing 1,1 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 1,7% in the three months ended February 2025 compared with the previous three months. The largest positive contributors to this increase were:

  • new vehicle sales (4,2% and contributing 1,0 percentage point); and
  • used vehicle sales (4,0% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point).
