Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, January 2020

The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 30,4% (-R2 501,5 million) in January 2020 compared with January 2019. Decreases were recorded for residential buildings (‑45,3% or -R2 163,8 million), non-residential buildings (-11,7% or -R189,2 million) and additions and alterations (-8,1% or -R148,5 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) decreased by 4,6% (-R231,8 million) in January 2020 compared with January 2019. A decrease was recorded for residential buildings (-33,0% or -R1 061,0 million). Increases were recorded for additions and alterations (68,3% or R481,7 million) and non-residential buildings (30,8% or R347,6 million).
