Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, May 2026

The value of building plans passed (at current prices) increased by 1,2% (R473,7 million) during January to May 2026 compared with January to May 2025. An increase was reported for residential buildings (R1 348,7 million). Decreases were reported for additions and alterations (-R670,9 million) and non-residential buildings (-R204,1 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) decreased by 4,2% (-R819,4 million) during January to May 2026 compared with January to May 2025. Decreases were reported for non-residential buildings (-R759,8 million) and residential buildings (-R255,6 million). An increase was reported for additions and alterations (R196,0 million).
