Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, October 2011

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 2,6% (R1 376,0 million) during January to October 2011 compared with January to October 2010. Increases were reported for non-residential buildings (22,0% or R2 452,3 million) and residential buildings (6,1% or R1 381,5 million), as opposed to a decrease reported for additions and alterations (-12,3% or -R2 457,8 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) decreased by 2,2% (-R797,1 million) during January to October 2011 compared with January to October 2010. A large decrease was reported for non-residential buildings (-14,5% or -R1 432,3 million), while increases were reported for residential buildings (2,7% or R462,9 million) and additions and alterations (1,8% or R172,4 million)during the above-mentioned period.
