Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, August 2011

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 4,0% (R1 611,3 million) during January to August 2011 compared with January to August 2010. Increases were reported for residential buildings (8,9% or R1 569,1 million) and non-residential buildings (7,8% or R684,6 million), as opposed to a decrease reported for additions and alterations (-4,5% or -R642,4 million).

As indicated in Table E, the value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) decreased by 6,5% (-R1 898,6 million) during January to August 2011 compared with January to August 2010. The biggest decrease was reported for non-residential buildings (-15,0% or -R1 171,1 million), followed by residential buildings (-4,4% or -R600,0 million) and additions and alterations (-1,6% or -R127,4 million) during the above-mentioned period.
