Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, February 2011

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 9,2% (R786,5 million) during January to February 2011 compared with January to February 2010. This increase was due to an increase reported for non-residential buildings (53,0% or R956,3 million). Decreases were reported for residential buildings (-3,5% or -R126,9 million) and additions and alterations (-1,4% or -R42,9 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) decreased by 0,2% (-R13,8 million) during January to February 2011 compared with January to February 2010. The biggest decrease was reported for non-residential buildings (-16,9% or -R229,3 million), followed by residential buildings (-3,3% or -R92,2 million). Additions and alterations reported a large increase (20,7% or R307,6 million) which counteracted the decreases reported to a large extent.
