Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, December 2010

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) was 4,9% lower (-R3 200,3 million) during 2010 compared with 2009. This was due to the decrease reported for non-residential buildings (-33,4% or
-R6 264,3 million). Increases were reported for additions and alterations (9,2% or R1 983,9 million) and residential buildings (4,3% or R1 080,2 million).
 
The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) decreased by 20,8% (-R11 494,5 million) during 2010 compared with 2009. The biggest percentage decrease was reported for non-residential buildings (-28,6% or -R4 595,2 million), followed by residential buildings (-20,6% or -R5 434,9 million) and additions and alterations (-11,5% or -R1 464,3 million).
