Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, October 2010

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) was 4,6% lower (-R2 568,3 million) during January to October 2010 compared with January to October 2009. This was due to the decrease reported for non-residential buildings (-35,8% or -R5 966,7 million). Increases were reported for additions and alterations (12,4% or R2 210,0 million) and residential buildings (5,6% or R1 188,4 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) decreased by 19,6% (-R8 768,3 million) during January to October 2010 compared with January to October 2009. The biggest decrease was reported for residential buildings (-21,3% or -R4 562,3 million), followed by non-residential buildings (-20,8% or -R2 596,8 million) and additions and alterations (-14,9% or
-R1 609,2 million).
