Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, July 2010

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during January to July 2010 was 9,4% lower (-R3 598,5 million) compared with January to July 2009. This was due to the decrease reported for non-residential buildings (-37,1% or -R4 449,4 million). Increases were reported for residential buildings (3,5% or R502,2 million) and additions and alterations (2,9% or R348,6 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during January to July 2010 decreased by 17,7% (-R5 424,7 million) compared with January to July 2009. The biggest decrease was reported for residential buildings (-19,2% or -R2 788,8 million), followed by non-residential buildings (-16,6% or -R1 397,3 million) and additions and alterations (-16,3% or
-R1 238,6 million).
