The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during January to May 2010 was 15,4% lower (-R4 239,4 million) compared with January to May 2009. The largest decrease was reported for non-residential buildings (-40,6% or -R3 484,2 million), followed by additions and alterations (-5,0% or -R436,4 million) and residential buildings (-3,1% or
-R318,7 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during January to May 2010 decreased by 18,7% (-R3 912,6 million) compared with January to May 2009.
