Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, April 2010

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during January to April 2010 decreased by 11,5% (-R2 339,6 million) compared with the January to April 2009. The largest decrease was reported for non-residential buildings (-23,4% or -R1 238,0 million), followed by additions and alterations (-11,8% or -R861,7 million) and residential buildings (-3,1% or
-R239,9 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during January to April 2010 decreased by 26,7% (-R4 558,2 million) compared with January to April 2009. The biggest percentage decrease was reported for residential buildings (-33,2% or -R2 904,2 million), followed by additions and alterations (-24,5% or -R1 068,8 million) and non-residential buildings (-14,7% or -R585,2 million).
