Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, March 2010

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during the first quarter of 2010 decreased by 1,5% (-R204,9 million) compared with the first quarter of 2009. The largest decrease was reported for non-residential buildings (-20,2% or -R824,2 million), followed by residential buildings (-7,1% or -R421,4 million). However, these decreases were to a large extent counteracted by an increase reported for additions and alterations (26,4% or R1 040,7 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during the first quarter of 2010 decreased by 32,2% (-R4 348,6 million) compared with the first quarter of 2009. The biggest percentage decrease was reported for additions and alterations (-37,5% or -R1 397,8 million), followed by residential buildings (-37,2% or -R2 552,3 million) and non-residential buildings (-13,5% or -R398,4 million).
