Building Statistics

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during January to February 2010 decreased by 4,7% (-R410,7 million) compared with January to February 2009 The largest decrease was reported for non-residential buildings (-26,4% or -R635,5 million), followed by residential buildings (-10,0% or -R391,1 million). However, these decreases were to a large extent counteracted by an increase reported for additions and alterations (25,0% or R616,0 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during January to February 2010 decreased by 33,2% (-R2 780,3 million) compared with January to February 2009. The biggest decrease in the value of buildings reported as completed was reported for residential buildings (-38,7% or -R1 735,9 million), followed by additions and alterations (-28,8% or
-R598,8 million) and non-residential buildings (-24,8% or -R445,6 million).
