Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, March 2008

According to this monthly survey, the preliminary estimates indicate that the value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during the first quarter of 2008 increased by 7,3% (R1 326,4 million) compared with the first quarter of 2007. Increases in the value of recorded building plans passed were reported for           non-residential buildings (18,7%) and additions and alterations (16,4%). Residential buildings recorded a decrease of 0,4%.

The preliminary estimates indicate that the value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during the above-mentioned period increased by 6,9% (R694,2 million). Increases in the value of buildings completed were reported for additions and alterations (22,8%), non-residential buildings (3,6%) and residential buildings (3,2%).
