According to this monthly survey, the preliminary estimates indicate that the value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during January 2008 increased by 28,4% (R1 451,2 million) compared with January 2007. Increases in the value of recorded building plans passed were reported for non-residential buildings (81,2%), additions and alterations (45,7%) and residential buildings (0,6%).

The preliminary estimates indicate that the value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during the above-mentioned period increased by 1,1% (R30,7 million). Increases in the value of buildings completed were reported for non-residential buildings (26,4%) and residential buildings (1,0%). Additions and alterations showed a decrease of 16,9%.
