Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, April 2006

According to this monthly survey, the preliminary estimates indicate that the value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during January to April 2006 increased by 24,6% (+R4 241,0 million) compared with January to April 2005. The largest percentage increase in the value of recorded building plans passed was reported for non-residential buildings (+37,9%), followed by residential buildings (+24,1%) and additions and alterations (+17,0%).

The preliminary estimates indicate that the value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during the above-mentioned period increased by 42,8% (+R3 092,4 million). Large percentage increases in the value of buildings completed were reported for non-residential buildings (+53,4%), additions and alterations (+52,1%) and residential buildings (+38,1%).
