Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, August 2005

According to this monthly survey, the preliminary estimates indicate that the value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during the first eight months of 2005 increased by 50,9% from R27 841,9 million to R42 004,6 million compared with the first eight months 2004. Large increases in the value of recorded building plans passed were reported for non-residential buildings (+82,1%), additions and alterations (+60,5%) and residential buildings (+39,4%).

The preliminary estimates indicate that the value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during the above-mentioned period increased by 37,4% from R13 160,4 million to R18 076,8 million. Large increases in the value of buildings reported as completed were reported for residential buildings (+45,9%), additions and alterations (+25,6%) and non-residential buildings (+18,1%).
