Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, May 2005

According to this monthly survey, the preliminary estimates indicate that the value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during the first five months of 2005 increased by 47,6% from R15 626,1 million to R23 058,7 million compared with the first five months of 2004. Large increases in the value of recorded building plans passed were reported for non-residential buildings (+69,2%), additions and alterations (+62,9%) and residential buildings (+36,4%).

The preliminary estimates indicate that the value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during the above-mentioned period increased by 38,3% from R6 968,2 million to R9 639,9 million. Large increases in the value of buildings reported as completed were reported for residential buildings (+45,7%), additions and alterations (+26,8%) and non-residential buildings (+23,6%).
