The results presented in this publication have been derived from the manufacturing large sample survey. This is a periodic survey, which measures economic activity in the manufacturing industry of the South African economy. This survey is based on a sample of private and public enterprises operating in the manufacturing industry. This survey covers the following income tax registered private and public enterprises that are mainly engaged in manufacturing: Food products and beverages; Textiles, clothing, leather and footwear; Wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing; Petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products; Glass and non-metallic mineral products; Basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery; Electrical machinery and apparatus; Radio, television and communication apparatus and professional equipment; Motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment; Furniture and other manufacturing divisions.
