Production: results for June 2026

 

Mining production decreased by 4,0% year-on-year in June 2026. The largest negative contributors were:

·         PGMs (-8,4% and contributing -2,4 percentage points);

·         coal (-6,6% and contributing -1,7 percentage points); and

·         iron ore (-10,2% and contributing -1,5 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted mining production increased by 0,3% in June 2026 compared with May 2026. This followed month-on-month changes of -5,2% in May 2026 and 3,0% in April 2026.

 

Seasonally adjusted mining production decreased by 2,7% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter of 2026. The largest negative contributors were:

·         PGMs (-6,4% and contributing -1,8 percentage points);

·         manganese ore (-5,3% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point);

·         gold (-3,2% and contributing -0,3 of a percentage point); and

·         iron ore (-2,0% and contributing -0,3 of a percentage point).

 

Mineral sales: results for June 2026

 

Mineral sales at current prices increased by 27,2% year-on-year in June 2026. The largest positive contributors were:

·         gold (125,7% and contributing 17,1 percentage points);

·         PGMs (27,0% and contributing 7,3 percentage points); and

·         chromium ore (49,0% and contributing 3,7 percentage points).

 

Iron ore (-16,1% and contributing -1,7 percentage points) and ‘other’ non-metallic minerals (-35,5% and contributing -1,3 percentage points) were the only negative contributors.

 

Seasonally adjusted mineral sales at current prices increased by 2,7% in June 2026 compared with May 2026. This followed month-on-month changes of -4,4% in May 2026 and 3,1% in April 2026.

 

Seasonally adjusted mineral sales at current prices decreased by 1,6% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter of 2026.
