Production: results for September 2025

 

Mining production increased by 1,2% year-on-year in September 2025. The largest positive contributors were:

·         PGMs (3,8% and contributing 1,1 percentage points);

·         gold (5,9% and contributing 0,6 of a percentage point); and

·         coal (1,5% and contributing 0,4 of a percentage point).

 

Manganese ore (-7,0% and contributing -0,5 of a percentage point) and iron ore (-2,2% and contributing -0,3 of a percentage point) were the largest negative contributors.

 

Seasonally adjusted mining production increased by 2,2% in September 2025 compared with August 2025. This followed month-on-month changes of -0,9% in August 2025 and 1,2% in July 2025.

 

Seasonally adjusted mining production increased by 2,5% in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the second quarter of 2025. The largest positive contributors were:

·         PGMs (6,7% and contributing 1,7 percentage points);

·         manganese ore (6,8% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point); and

·         coal (1,0% and contributing 0,3 of a percentage point).

 

Iron ore (-1,1% and contributing -0,2 of a percentage point) was the largest negative contributor.

 

Mineral sales: results for September 2025

 

Mineral sales at current prices increased by 16,6% year-on-year in September 2025. The largest positive contributors were:

·         PGMs (53,8% and contributing 11,3 percentage points);

·         gold (60,4% and contributing 9,6 percentage points); and

·         chromium ore (12,5% and contributing 1,1 percentage points).

 

The largest negative contributors were coal (-9,8% and contributing -2,5 percentage points) and manganese ore (-22,9% and contributing -1,8 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted mineral sales at current prices increased by 8,2% in September 2025 compared with August 2025. This followed month-on-month changes of -2,8% in August 2025 and 10,6% in July 2025.

 

Seasonally adjusted mineral sales at current prices increased by 8,2% in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the second quarter of 2025.
