Key findings: P0441.2 - Provincial Gross Domestic Product, 2024

The South African real GDP increased by 0,5% in 2024 compared with 2023. The provinces that recorded the largest growth rates were:

·        Limpopo (0,9%);

·        Gauteng (0,8%); and

·        Western Cape (0,7%).

 

The provinces that recorded negative growth rates were:

·        Eastern Cape (-0,2%);

·        North West (-0,1%); and

·        Northern Cape (-0,1%).

 

The percentage contributions of provinces to South Africa’s GDP remained relatively stable between 2023 and 2024, with small changes recorded in the following provinces:

·        Western Cape (from 14,1% to 14,2%);

·        Free State (from 4,9% to 5,0%);

·        Gauteng (from 33,3% to 33,2%); and

·       Limpopo (from 7,7% to 7,8%)
