In May 2026, 2 920 906 travellers (arrivals, departures, and transits) passed through South Africa’s ports of entry/exit. They were made up of 694 753 South African residents and 2 226 153 foreign travellers. Foreign arrivals, 1 155 059 were made up of 31 773 non-visitors and 1 123 286 visitors. The visitors consisted of 261 536 same-day visitors and 861 750 overnight visitors (tourists). The breakdown of the tourists by region is as follows 170 837 from overseas; 673 934 from SADC countries; 15 983 from 'other' African countries and the country of residence of 996 tourists was classified as unspecified.
