In January 2026, 3 373 931 travellers (arrivals, departures, and transits) passed through South Africa’s ports of entry/exit. They were made up of 890 850 South African residents and 2 483 081 foreign travellers. Foreign arrivals, 1 439 386 were made up of 41 965 non-visitors and 1 397 421 visitors. The visitors consisted of 263 888 same-day visitors and 1 133 533 overnight visitors (tourists). The breakdown of the tourists by region is as follows 235 058 from overseas; 882 023 from SADC countries; 15 738 from 'other' African countries and the country of residence of 714 tourists were classified as unspecified.
