In May 2025, 2 877 112 travellers (arrivals, departures, and transits) passed through South Africa’s ports of entry/exit. They were made up of 736 622 South African residents and 2 140 490 foreign travellers. Foreign arrivals, 1 125 559 were made up of 25 258 non-visitors and 1 100 301 visitors. The visitors consisted of 296 138 same-day visitors and 804 163 overnight visitors (tourists). The breakdown of tourists by region is as follows 152 398 from overseas; 635 360 from SADC countries; 15 301 from 'other' African countries and the country of residence of 1 104 tourists were classified as unspecified.
