In December 2024, 3 437 376 travellers (arrivals, departures, and transits) passed through South Africa’s ports of entry/exit. They comprised 1 036 366 South African residents and 2 401 010 foreign travellers. Foreign arrivals, 1 215 250 comprised 27 473 non-visitors and 1 187 777 visitors. The visitors consisted of 267 630 same-day visitors and 920 147 overnight visitors (tourists). The breakdown of tourists by region is as follows 222 163 from overseas; 679 406 from SADC countries; 17 460 from 'other' African countries and the country of residence of 1 118 tourists were classified as unspecified.
